One of the reasons that this blog bears a lighthouse graphic is because of the way that Kenaniah’s song acted as a sort of "auditory lighthouse" for the Israelites. When entering battle, Kenaniah and his fellow Levites stood high on a hill, singing anthems to the Lord. The sound of this anthem above the noise of battle strengthened the Israelites as they fought their enemies, and ultimately helped to give them victory.
When you are fighting your daily battles, or when you are feeling torn up or worn down by the fight, what is your lighthouse? Are there songs that soothe your soul and strengthen your spirit?
One of my most precious “musical lighthouses” is:
HE WILL CARRY ME
I call, You hear me.
I’ve lost it all, and it’s more than I can bear.
I feel so empty.
You’re strong, I’m weary.
I’m holdin’ on, but I feel like givin’ in.
Still, You’re with me.
And even though I’m walkin’ through
The Valley of the Shadow,
I will hold tight to the hand of Him
Whose love will comfort me.
And when all hope is gone,
And I’ve been wounded in the battle,
He is all the strength that I will ever need.
He will carry me.
I know I’m broken.
But You alone
Can mend this heart of mine.
You’re always with me.
And even though I’m walkin’ through
The Valley of the Shadow,
I will hold tight to the hand of Him
Whose love will comfort me.
And when all hope is gone
And I’ve been wounded in the battle,
He is all the strength that I will ever need.
He will carry me. He will carry me.
And even though I feel so lonely,
Like I have never been before,
You never said it would be easy,
But You said You’d see me through the storm...
And even though I’m walkin’ through
The Valley of the Shadow,
I will hold tight to the hand of Him
Whose love will comfort me.
And when all hope is gone
And I’ve been wounded in the battle,
He is all the strength that I will ever need.
He will carry me. He will carry me.

I hope that you have a "lighthouse" too. If you do, would you share it here?
